As of April 13, 2026, the Government of Ontario has introduced a new Buy Ontario Procurement Directive that applies to public sector organizations, including Empower Simcoe.
This directive requires organizations to prioritize Ontario and Canadian goods and services when making purchases, in order to help support local businesses and strengthen our Ontario economy.
What this means for Empower Simcoe
Empower Simcoe will:
- give preference to Ontario and Canadian suppliers whenever possible;
- follow the updated procurement processes and requirements;
- limit purchases from U.S. businesses, except under certain circumstances (for example, when no viable alternative exists; and
- maintain clear documentation for procurement decisions.
