We couldn’t be prouder of Empower Simcoe Senior Support Worker Stacie Swinton, who has been named a finalist for the 2025 Orillia Citizen of the Year.
Stacie earned this prestigious recognition for her tireless volunteerism and leadership as Logistics Chair for the 2026 Orillia Winter Games. Contributing more than 150 volunteer hours, she played a key role in planning and coordination to ensure thousands of athletes and visitors enjoyed a positive, well‑supported experience.
“I’m a jump‑in‑and‑help kind of person,” Stacie says. With a lifelong love of sports and community service inspired by her family, she’s already committed to supporting the organizing committee for the 2028 Ontario 55+ Winter Games in Orillia. She also serves as Membership Chair for the Ladies Auxiliary at the Orillia Legion Branch 34.
A valued member of our Empower Simcoe team for 18 years – six of them as a Senior Support Worker – Stacie was further recognized for her dedication to supporting people with intellectual disabilities in living their best lives. Her compassion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to others have made her a deeply admired presence throughout the community.
Congratulations, Stacie, from everyone at Empower Simcoe for your unwavering commitment to your community!
Empower Simcoe also extends heartfelt congratulations to Ian Gordon, recipient of the 2025 Orillia Citizen of the Year Award.
Ian was honoured for his key role in the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Memorial Ride, where he serves as safety captain, helps plan routes, coordinates volunteers, and works closely with the Ontario Provincial Police to ensure participant safety. In addition, he contributes his time and expertise as a member of the hospital’s board of directors and serves on committees focused on quality and safety, helping guide decisions that impact care for local residents.
