That’s why Empower Simcoe developed Pathway to Support, a free online platform that helps people in the developmental service sector connect with Independent Direct Support Providers (IDSPs). The service is administered in Simcoe County through a partnership with Catulpa Community Support Services, making it easier for individuals and families to find personalized supports that meet their unique needs.
Independent Direct Support Providers are community members who offer individualized support tailored to a person’s unique goals and needs. Whether it’s building life skills, increasing independence, participating in community activities, or providing much-needed respite for caregivers, IDSPs help individuals live fuller, more connected lives.
Pathway to Support gives individuals and families the flexibility to search for, select, and connect directly with support providers who best match their needs. Through the platform, users can explore provider profiles and arrange support that works for their schedules, goals, and preferences.
One of the greatest strengths of Pathway to Support is choice. Individuals and families work directly with their chosen provider to discuss support needs, availability, responsibilities, and rates, creating arrangements that are personalized and mutually beneficial.

Within minutes of registering, individuals and families can access provider profiles, explore their experience and availability, and begin connecting with Independent Direct Support Providers who meet their needs. Secure messaging allows users to ask questions and discuss support requirements while maintaining their privacy. For those who prefer providers to come to them, Pathway to Support also offers a Support Request feature, where individuals can post their support needs and receive responses from interested providers through the platform.
Designed with flexibility and choice in mind, Pathway to Support allows users to save search preferences, bookmark provider profiles of interest, browse at their convenience, and connect when they are ready. Whether searching independently or posting a Support Request, individuals and families can explore their options and find support that best fits their unique needs and goals.
We are also excited to welcome new Independent Direct Support Providers to the platform. People from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels are encouraged to register and advertise their service. While formal education is not required, experience supporting individuals with disabilities or providing personal care is considered an asset by those seeking support. All prospective providers complete a screening process that includes references, a resume, a recent Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check, and participation in an introductory information session. Pathway to Support provides Independent Direct Support Providers with an opportunity to promote their services and connect directly with individuals and families seeking support.
