Statement re: Lakeshore Ridge Home, Oro-Medonte

Empower Simcoe is a fully accredited charitable, non-profit organization established in 1953 that is funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. We provide supports and services to children, teens and adults of all abilities including people with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

We have a wealth of experience in community-based living, currently operating 41 group living homes that are embraced by the neighbourhoods they are a part of in Barrie, Orillia, and surrounding areas.

Lakeshore Ridge will be a state-of-the-art supported living home located at 2553 Lakeshore Road East in Oro-Medonte, in full compliance with municipal zoning and by-laws for a Residential Care Home (not a Correctional Residential Care Home) and is slated to open in spring 2022.

The process of selection for the property in Oro-Medonte was informed by the needs of the individuals we will support with the goal of providing a tranquil, peaceful environment which will be therapeutic to the individuals who will call it home.

In partnership with Mackenzie Health, Lakeshore Ridge will support up to six people with multiple complex needs, which may include developmental and intellectual disabilities, mental health, behavioural, and/or medical needs, who will receive 24/7 support and services by qualified and experienced staff.

Everyone has the right to inclusion, the right to participate in their communities and live fulfilling lives. We welcome dialogue with residents from the Lakeshore Road/Oro-Medonte community and are committed to addressing their concerns as well as ensuring our residents are supported in a respectful and inclusive manner both in their home and in the community.

Transformation is happening all around us; within the section and the broader environment. We want to be aligned with, and ahead of that change. We will leverage our reputation and expertise as we grow our organization by taking the good we are doing and making changes to what we could be doing better.

Giving back makes me feel that I’m contributing a little bit to making life better for other people. It’s my small contribution. I want to make life a little bit easier and happier for people, to know they are loved and cared about and are important.
