Growing up with a brother or sister who has a disability or developmental need can bring plenty of joyful moments, along with experiences that other children may not always understand.
On Friday, August 28, Empower Simcoe’s Family Supports team is hosting its next Sibshops session: a welcoming and energetic day created especially for siblings ages 8 to 13.
Sibshops give children an opportunity to meet other young people who understand what it can be like to have a sibling with a disability or developmental need.
Through games, group activities and age-appropriate conversations, participants can:
- Meet other children with similar family experiences
- Talk about both the positive and challenging parts of being a sibling
- Discover how other siblings handle common situations
- Build friendships in a comfortable and supportive environment
- Laugh, play and enjoy a day that is focused on them
Date: Friday, August 28, 2026
Time: 9:30am – 2:00pm
Location: 40 Fraser Court, Barrie

This program is intended for siblings who do not have developmental needs themselves. Participants should be comfortable taking part in group activities, listening and following directions, and participating with limited individual support.
Space is limited, and advance registration is required.
Please note that submitting a registration does not necessarily confirm attendance. A member of Empower Simcoe’s Family Supports team may contact the parent or caregiver to discuss the program and ensure it is a good fit for the participant.
Give the sibling in your family an opportunity to meet new friends, share some laughs and spend a day with other kids who understand.
