We Invite You to Participate in a Focus Group for Unpaid Caregivers in Simcoe County

Your Voice Matters: Shape the Future of Caregiver Support in Simcoe County

Would you like to participate in a focus group to discuss your needs as an unpaid caregiver in Simcoe County?  Empower Simcoe is seeking your input!

What is a focus group?  A focus group involves a group of people discussing their feelings or attitudes towards a product, service, or idea. The group is led by a facilitator who asks questions and encourages participants to share their opinions.  In this case, the questions would be about services needed for unpaid caregivers with a particular focus on respite needs.

In partnership with Georgian College, Empower Simcoe is pleased to launch a transformative research project dedicated to understanding and enhancing caregiver services in our community. This collaborative project includes a comprehensive community needs assessment to better support unpaid caregivers in Simcoe County.

Who are unpaid caregivers? They are the heartfelt heroes in our lives—family members, friends, and loved ones who provide essential daily care for individuals facing various challenges, such as physical, intellectual, or developmental disabilities, medical conditions, mental health issues, or aging-related needs. According to the Ontario Caregiver Organization’s 2023 Spotlight Report, over 4 million individuals in Ontario are currently providing care for someone close to them. 52% of caregivers express a need for a well-deserved break, and 73% worry about managing their caregiving responsibilities in the future.

If you are an unpaid caregiver, or know someone who is, and live in Simcoe County, we encourage you to register for 1 of our focus groups. For your convenience, they are being offered both virtually and in-person.

Please choose from the following dates:

If you have any questions about the project, the survey or the focus groups, please feel free to contact Carolyn Harris, Respite Coordinator (charris@empowersimcoe.ca).

Giving back makes me feel that I’m contributing a little bit to making life better for other people. It’s my small contribution. I want to make life a little bit easier and happier for people, to know they are loved and cared about and are important.
