Empower Simcoe’s Culinary Program for Independence

Empower Simcoe’s recent “Cooking Up Capability” program is making waves by offering culinary classes to individuals with intellectual disabilities in Barrie and Orillia. Cooking Up Capability course

“Learning basic life skills, like cooking, is essential to fostering independence as an adult,” Empower Simcoe CEO Claudine Cousins said. “It’s magical to see our Empower Simcoe Cooking Up Capability chefs develop their kitchen wizardry one dish at a time.”

Participants, like Samantha Smith, are not only learning to make a variety of dishes but are also enjoying the fruits of their labor, such as tuna salad wraps and chicken pesto sandwiches. This program, highlighted in a recent Simcoe.com news article, emphasizes building essential life skills, fostering independence, and creating a supportive social environment.
