Housing Access Worker

We provide services through a variety of programs in the Barrie, Orillia and surrounding areas. We are presently accepting resumes for a full-time Housing Access Worker to assist individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to obtain affordable accommodation and relevant support services; to teach skills which will help people maintain their housing; support individuals and families to apply for related funding streams and assist with service navigation; provide landlord/tenant mediation and to work with the Housing Tribunal. This position is based in Barrie and works throughout the County of Simcoe to support the regional housing program.
This is a contract position working up to 37.5 hours per week for up to twelve (12) months with an hourly rate of $26.77. 
Minimum requirements of this position include:

Preference will be given to applicants with a degree/diploma in the field of social services and who have recent relevant experience working with the target population; 
Up to one year's full-time experience in promoting housing for marginalized persons, experience within the Addictions, Mental Health or a closely related field is an asset
Demonstrated knowledge of human/legal rights and relevant legislation; 
Knowledge of screening and assessment tools related to the field;
Demonstrated excellent communication and assessment skills; networking skills; 
Knowledge of community resources;
The ability to work independently and as part of a team are required.

Duties and responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

Maintaining a caseload of individuals and families who require assistance in obtaining and maintaining adequate housing;
Advocating to landlords on behalf of clients requiring housing;
Developing and maintaining a list of landlords/property managers willing to rent rooms, apartments, houses to persons with housing needs;
Providing support to both landlords and tenants, in order to maintain housing;
Facilitating information sharing workshops and sessions;
Providing training in budgeting, household management, social skills, and other skills necessary to maintain adequate housing;
Being familiar with Landlord-Tenant Act and other related regulations and assisting clients accordingly;
Assessing housing needs and assisting clients in securing housing to meet those needs;
Treating all information pertaining to both clients and landlords as confidential as outlined in the Empower Simcoe Personnel Policy.

 
Special Factors:

Have an ability to provide customer service in a calm and professional manner in challenging and stressful situations;
Prepared to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends;
A valid G class driver's licence and own reliable transportation is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have a completed Degree or Diploma from an accredited college or university in the Human Services field (including, but not limited to: DSW, SSW, CYW, ECE, BSW, etc.);
Candidates who have a completed Degree or Diploma from an accredited college or university in an unrelated field must have 2 years full-time work experience directly supporting people;
Candidates must be available to work all shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays;
As a condition of hire, candidates must be willing to provide a current, clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening and a pre-employment medical;
A valid "Class G" driver's license and reliable transportation are considered an asset.

We are recruiting for a permanent full-time Quality and Innovations Systems Coordinator to work in our Quality and Innovations Department to provide assistance to the Agency in maintaining its accreditation and Ministry Compliance status. This position also assists people who receive passport funds to track spending and purchase eligible items, implements systems to ensure quality personalized supports are in place for individuals and fosters an environment of continuous quality improvement. This position may require working evenings in either Orillia or Barrie.
 The rate of pay for this position is $26.77 per hour working up to 37.5 hours per week.
Minimum Requirements for this position include:

Community College Diploma in Office Administration or equivalent knowledge and experience as deemed acceptable by the Agency;
A minimum of five ( 5) years experience in an administrative role is required, and experience working in the social services field is considered an asset.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with advanced knowledge and abilities in Excel, Word and databases;
Excellent organizational skills with above average time management and multi-tasking abilities;
Working knowledge of person-centered thinking, personal outcome measures, CQL Outcome based practices and CQL Accreditation processes.;
Understanding of Ministry of Children Community and Social Services.

 
Duties and Responsibilities (included, but not limited to):

Work in collaboration with people, families to explore the use of Passport funding that the agency has been asked to manage
Work in collaboration with the Agency's Finance Department and the transfer payment agencies to ensure an accountable, timely processing for the reconciliation of individual funding dollars (passport and fee for service).
Assist with maintaining the Basic Assurances monitoring system by tracking information and identifying trends;
Coordination of any requests for resources and information related quality services and supports;
Support the implementation of policies and procedures related to the Quality and Innovations Department and quality improvement for the Agency as a whole;
Monitor the Agency complaint hotline and report to the Quality and Innovations Supervisor;
Respond to telephone inquiries and forwarding to the appropriate personnel;
Maintaining and safekeeping of documents, data, spreadsheets and other materials as required;
Preparing and maintaining all program/department files, both hard copy and on computer as required;
Assist with the completion and follow up of internal agency quality reviews and ministry compliance review systems;
Perform audit as requested by the Quality and Innovations Manager;
Coordinate the review of rights restrictions and Behaviour Support protocols;
Provide support and resources to Committees under the Quality and Innovations Department as needed or requested by the Quality and Innovations Manager;
